Mile High Dining and two high school classmates ate at the Doylestown Inn. We were in eastern Pennsylvania for our high school reunion and found the historic Doylestown Inn. It opened in 1902 as a tavern with music and hosted many celebrities such as Pearl S Buck, James Michener, Dorothy Parker, and Henry Ford. It was rumored that Oscar Hammerstein wrote the musical, South Pacific, during one of his many stays.
As for food, one had the Hattery chicken pot pie, which had chicken, carrots, celery, with a topping of a pie shell that was baked till golden brown. It was a large dish with plenty to share. I had a slice and it was a good fall and winter dish.
The other two of us shared the mussels. They were presented with leeks, shallots, lots of garlic and sitting in a white wine and cream sauce. The mussels were good. The bread was presented sitting in the sauce which was not only different, but I missed the tradition of dipping the bread into the sauce.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for the Doylestown Inn is Good.
