Ukiyo is a Japanese omakase dining spot hidden in a small alley in downtown Denver. It has received a Michelin recommendation for above average food. Mile High Dining and friend had the 19 different little tasting dishes of fish and sushi. You sit at a chef’s counter with only 12 seats, but it allows you to observe and even talk to the chef’s working on your meal. The hardest part of the evening was finding the alley entrance door as there is no signage.
The 19 dishes start with warm Sichuan soup and end up with a passionfruit chocolate dessert. Mile High Dining’s favorite three dish were the different bluefin tuna. They even had fish from New Zealand, coral trout. My friend voted the scallops as the best dish. The bento box with three bites of Daikon, kimchi, and cucumber were light and flavorful tasting. Lastly, the fancy passionfruit dessert won the presentation award of the evening, and it was even fun to admire.
My only drawback of the evening was the extra loud music from the restaurant upstairs in the building.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Ukiyo is Very Good.
