Mile High Dining visits a 100% vegan restaurant, Watercourse Foods. It’s a large and busy place on Saturday evenings. Since they do not take reservations, we sat with families and waited our turn. Denver has a fair number of vegan restaurants and Watercourse is one of the oldest. It’s popular with the younger age set and families.
The menu covers, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a kids menu. The dinner includes starters, entrées, and side orders. One diner had the sweet potatoes with carrots, and I had the brown butter gnocchi with a side of cauliflower chicken.
The sweet potato with carrot arancini had lentils, shaved carrots, and topped with arugula. It is a pretty dish. The carrot arancini looks great, but lacked flavor. The sweet potatoes and arugula were good.
The brown butter gnocchi with mushrooms and kale was just so-so. The gnocchi had been fried in the butter, but it was now crusty and not the traditional soft texture of gnocchi.
The best dish of the evening was the cauliflower chicken. It’s large pieces of cauliflower breaded, and then deep fried. It was presented still warm in temperature and a little spicy. It was delicious.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Watercourse Foods is Good. It may take some extra time for Mile High Dining to understand and enjoy 100% vegan foods. For example, the menu uses food terms that I had to Google.
