Sunday Vinyl was a surprise and fun spot to celebrate Lunar New Year with a 6 course tasting menu of Vietnamese food. Sunday Vinyl is a wine bar but found an unique way to celebrate. The place was sold out despite a snow storm outside. We loved everything but the rap music.
The tasting menu was comprised of the following: shrimp, endive salad, chicken wings, noodles, pork belly, and panna cotta.
The first dish was the prawn crudo with a rice sheet with chili soy and shallots. The shrimp were good but the rice roll was delicious.
Endive salad with citrus and gourds was dressed with a fish vinaigrette and were finely sliced with a crunchy texture. The endive and citrus was the hit.
The third dish was the stuffed chicken wings filled with spiced sausage and mushroom. The crunchy skin made the chicken wings. A very good dish.
Dish number four was the crab with noodles and jalapeño. A great flavor but it was presented cold and we thought on a snowy evening we needed hot noodles.
The fifth dish was pork belly presented with a small quail egg and a large square of rice and pickled greens sitting in a warm broth. The greens and rice were tops.
Dessert was sweet and panna cotta with sliced almonds, lychee fruit, and longan fruit. The fruit and almonds added a new taste for dessert as it wasn’t even sweet but so good.
Definitely a different and unique experience to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The menu even pictured each dish with a small zodiac symbol.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Sunday Vinyl and the 6 Course tasting menu of Vietnamese food is Excellent. Five out of six dishes were great.
