Mizuna

Mile High Dining had takeaway supper #45 from Mizuna to celebrate receiving the first vaccine shot! We called on Friday to ask about the February menu but never received a callback. So we called again on Saturday and we’re informed the takeaway menu was limited to just a few dishes.

Mizuna is one of the 10 restaurants and bars operated by Frank Bonanno in Denver. Mizuna has been awarded accolades including best restaurant over the years. So far for Mile High Dining, it’s been poor service by telephone.

It was an easy pick up of our 4 dishes: mac&cheese, lobster noodles, crab cake, and bread. It was an expensive supper that you take home and cook with instructions. Off to home where the real work begins.

First, the lobster noodles looked great but even after adding the heated broth, there was a lack of flavor. The noodles had lots of lobster and edamame, but tasted like plain noodles in the bowl after all our work in preparing the dish. Very disappointing. This main entre also included a grilled caesar salad and tres leches cake for dessert.

Next, the jumbo crab cake was heated and covered with the bouillon. It lacked presentation as the bouillon was gray but the crab cake had a good crab taste. The menu featured a green sauce but ours was a gray.

The lobster mac&cheese was heated and had the best taste of the evening. There were large pieces of lobster and the mac&cheese went down well.

The best dish of the evening was the beautiful crispy sourdough bread. Even though it’s difficult to cut, we all enjoyed the bread.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict for Mizuna is It’s OK. It is just OK considering the price paid, Mile High Dining expected a much better meal. Even the complimentary cookies did not help.
