Potager

Mile High Dining recently enjoyed a takeaway supper from Potager, located in the Capital Hill area. It’s a very small restaurant with only limited indoor seating. The restaurant is long established in the neighborhood known for young person’s apartments, bars, and fast food options. It started as one of the first farm to table concepts in Denver almost 25 years ago. It’s name translates from French to ‘garden’. We ordered by telephone and requested curbside pick up. The restaurant had a parking space reserved right at the front door.

We ordered five dishes: brussels sprouts, beets, ravioli, crabcake, and beignets.

The crispy Brussels sprouts were covered in Ponzu, spicy peanuts, and sesame seeds. Ponzu is a citrus-based sauce which added a tart flavor. The crispy sprouts covered with sauce are a pleasant way to eat healthily.

The red beets with kaffir (lime), yogurt cheese, pistachios, and honey were Quite appetizing in box. After plating, it lost it’s presentation but still tasted good. The mild-flavored cheese was yummy.

The squash ravioli with brown butter and almond salsa looked and tasted good. The ravioli could use more filling as the pasta flavor dominated the dish.

The daily special was the jumbo crabcake. It came with watermelon radishes and segments of grapefruit. Clearly, the crabcake was the best presentation with the colorful radishes. The crabcake itself was filled with lots of crab meat. It was as one of the top crabcakes from any seafood restaurants in Denver.

The beignets were 4 small-sized morsels with a light filling and went well to finish the meal.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict for the Potager was Very Good. One will enjoy the crab cake and the Brussel sprouts.
