Julep

Julep is located at 32nd and Larimer Streets, Denver, CO. It’s a Southern food style restaurant located in the RINO district. First, the space is two levels of dining with an adjoining bar which makes everything bright. In the summer, there is an outdoor patio facing Larimer. They even open the large garage doors. The owners are a husband and wife team. It’s reported they traveled around the Southern United States to obtain a variety of ideas for a large Southern style menu. For example, the snacks have corn fritters and beignets. The entrées include Denver’s best buttermilk biscuits and many pork dishes.

For our food and drinks, we had a Mexican Coke and a glass of red wine from Colorado. Next, the deviled eggs, butter milk biscuits with butter and local honey, and grilled chicken.

A small complementary appetizer was provided of sliced apples with cheese and honey. Delicious. The deviled eggs were very good and the presentation is beautiful. The buttermilk biscuits with the local honey are made with White Lily flower and are the highlight of the meal. The biscuits are so light and with the honey they melt in your mouth! The biscuits go well with a large glass of wine. The chicken with vegetables is good. The problem with chicken is that it’s hard to flavor when grilled although it is very healthy. Denver is becoming a chicken town after years and years of being a steak place. I promised, no more pictures of chicken.

The service was friendly and each server wears a plaid shirt. My one complaint was a long wait for the wine as they had a staff meeting over the menu between my order and delivery.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Julep is Very Good.
