Mar Bella Boqueria

On opening week, Mile High Dining and friend visited the newest restaurant in Denver, Mar Bella Boqueria. It’s owned and operated by Johnny and Kasie Curiel whom have two Michelin starred restaurants, Alma Fonda Fina and Mezcaleria Alma. We were lucky to be seated at the chef’s counter and served by Johnny Curiel himself. At the counter, it was a 9 course omakase style meal focused on the food of coastal Spain. We were there almost 3 hours but enjoyed the food and talking with Mr. Curiel.

As for food, we had olives with ham and bread, salmon, tuna, relleno with ox tail, shrimp, salad with melon, crab, chicken, and French toast for dessert. My favorites and the best 4 dishes were the spicy olives, crab, ox tail relleno, and the endive melon salad.

The spicy olives were delicious as you enjoyed the different types of olives and the pieces of citrus and garlic. A good way to start. The crab with a small slice of salmon provided an excellent soft taste after the olives. You are asked to eat the entire ball of crab in one bite, good luck. The ox tail relleno was easily the best of of the night dish as the tender ox tail with the peppers and salsa verde added lots of flavor. The endive salad with sheep cheese calmed you taste buds before the large chicken plate.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Mar Bella Boqueria is Excellent especially when seated at the chef’s counter.
