After many years of eating on Christmas Eve at JAX Fish House on Colorado Blvd., we relocated to JAX LoDo as the Colorado Blvd. location closed. LoDo is small but a lively restaurant. The Feast of the Seven Fishes is based upon the tradition in Italy of not eating meat on the holy day of Christmas.
The first course, Fritto Misto, had squid and anchovy stuffed olives with a chili aïoli. It was the best dish of the night. The second dish was lettuce covered with creamy anchovy dressing. It was good, but nothing special. The third course of spaghetti with shrimp, squid, and mussels definitely was the largest and the most filling of the evening. The mussels were the best part of this course. The fourth course was Branzino fish with cubes of crispy polenta and lots of mushrooms. The dessert dish of chocolate mousse was not sweet enough, but the sweet and crispy fried pastries (crostoli) were good.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for JAX Fish House and the Feast Of the Seven Fishes was Good.
