Mezcaleria Alma

We visited the Michelin starred restaurant, Mezcaleria Alma. It’s a small plate and Mezcal and tequila place. The best location is sitting at the chef’s counter to not only receive great service, but an explanation of the dish selected and even alternative dishes are suggested. We selected fish, duck, and short rib plates, which are intended to be shared by the two of us.

The Tostado De Toro is tuna covered with herbs, including habanero and chili oil, sitting on a tostada. It is spicy and good. Initially, we selected the tuna crudo, but the chef changed our minds and we agreed with the spicy tuna.

The next dish, Tlacoyo De Pato (duck) won presentation of the evening and was my favorite dish. The duck with radishes and spicy salsa (xni-pec) was an excellent dish. The third dish, Costillal De Res, was the short ribs with black beans and chilies paired with a side of soft tacos. Great flavor and the meat just fell apart. It’s a big dish so we called it an evening.

We even shared a shot of Mezcal with the chef who served us! With my shot of Mezcal I even had one of the roasted crickets. The service at Mezcaleria Alma we received at the counter sets this place apart.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Mezcaleria Alma is Excellent.
