Mile High Dining enjoyed an unique experience at Black Cat Farm. I and a friend ate at a real working farm. We were lucky to sit outside on a lovely patio. Black Cat is operated by a husband and wife team that oversee a restaurant in Boulder, Bramble & Hare and a farm stand.
Black Cat Farm covers several parcels of land totaling about 400 acres. The farm has hogs, sheep, and many types of vegetables and grains. We walked around and found 3 lambs and a field of sunflowers and Jerusalem artichokes.
Dinner is a chef‘s menu that changes weekly. Ours had 11 dishes and finished with a hot cup of tea, which was greatly appreciated for my 45 mile trip home.
My favorite dishes were the figs, “roe your boat”, egg cup, rabbit mousseline, and lettuce with duck egg toast. The grilled fig was topped with pistachio lime cream. A great small dish to start the evening. The “roe your boat” was a pastry shell made from their own rye flour topped with caviar and a carrot. The egg cup is a sliced actual egg shell filled with asparagus mousse. It was delicious. The lettuce with duck egg on toast was excellent as the greens were ultra fresh and light tasting.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for the Black Cat Farm is Very Good. It is definitely farm-to-table.
