Mile High Dining found a new restaurant, Stellar Jay, atop the Populus hotel. The hotel’s outside is designed to resemble an aspen tree but we thought it looked like eyes staring at you. Stellar Jay sits atop the hotel in a charming space with beautiful views of the skyline of Denver. There is an outside patio awaiting warmer weather.
It was restaurant week and the two of us selected its menu. My friend had the mushrooms and quail. The tempura mushrooms with squash aioli were good especially the larger pieces. The quail which had cauliflower and pickled hot pepper was a good and healthy dish.
I had the crudo and steak. The Hamachi crudo was forgettable while the tender steak and grilled carrots were delicious and easily the best dish!
Cookies were presented for dessert and we even shared them with the employee holding the door open.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Stellar Jay is Very Good. The fantastic views of Denver enliven the evening.
