Mercantile

After a modest remodel and change of ownership, the Mercantile reopened at Union Station. Mile High Dining and a friend visited on opening weekend. The new majority owner is the Sage Hospitality group while the original owner/chef, Alex Seidel is stepping back but not out.

We shared three dishes and a side of bread. The spiced carrots sitting in a mild feta cheese sauce and topped with herbs and cashews was a good start. The carrots maintained their good taste.

The snapper schnitzel had a crispy bread covering but the entire fish remained tender. The presentation with the herb salad with radishes sitting on top was very good.

The third dish, Carolina gold rice, had spicy rice with local mushrooms and almonds, is a good winter time dish.

Sadly, we had to wait a long time for the food to be delivered. The manager intervened and apologized and did not charge for two of the dishes. Good recovery.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for the Mercantile is Good.
