Mile High Dining enjoyed the annual Feast of the Seven Fishes at Jax Fish House on Christmas Eve. The meal is an Italian tradition to avoid eating meat on holy days.
The first course was fritto misto which had shrimp, squid and anchovies. They were lightly breaded and fried with side of chile aioli for dipping. They were excellent.
The next course was a salad with anchovy dressing and bottarga (fish roe). A good and crunchy lettuce plate.
The third plate was shrimp in a bowl of pasta noodles ( fra diavolo). Definitely, good enough to share.
The final dish was branzino with roasted fennel and grape tomatoes. I enjoyed the little roasted tomatoes as much as the fish.
For dessert, a slice of tiramisu with caramel and crème sauce. It was not too sweet. I experimented with a dessert wine but it was too sugary and sweet for me.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for the Feast of the Seven Fishes at Jax Fish House is Good.
