Xiquita

Two of us enjoyed the evening at an upscale Mexican restaurant, Xiquita. The inside of the place is very beautiful while the outside is boring. The good news, the food is not boring. I started with a Mezcal margarita, since it was promised not to be sweet and it was not. Just note the head chef is a James Beard semi-finalist.

As for food, we shared four plates after we received a small blue masa tortilla. The first dish was tlacoyo, which is masa stuffed with fava bean, herbs, and goat cheese. It was an excellent dish. Dish number two was the sikil pak which were grilled beets with tomato, cheese, and salsa. My friend thought it was too spicy, but I thought otherwise. The third dish was a fish taco with lots of fish and pineapple. It was very good. The final plate was the tamal De equites with lots of spicy street corn. The four dishes and two mixed drinks were close to $100 but well worth it.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Xiquita is Very Good. We enjoyed the friendly and timely service.
