Off to a French/North African restaurant with snow on the ground. Mile High Dining went to an intimate place, Bistro Barbes. It’s small with about 20 seats and currently offers only a 4-course chef’s tasting menu at $90. Jon is the owner and a one-man team as he is the only chef and server! It’s a French-based menu with influences from Morocco and even Kashmir.
As for food, the 4 courses consisted of agnolotti, roasted beets, cassoulet, and a chocolate dessert. The Sunchoke Agnolotti had a good presentation as the colorable and favorable sauces dominated. The Moroccan cassoulet featured a very large duck leg that was grilled and very tasty with very little duck fat left. The Cappuccino Pot De Creme had an upside-down chocolate tea cup over the custard and a delicious cake filling.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Bistro Barbes is Good. The lack of ambiance lowers the verdict and the restaurant needs some cheerful color.
