Mile High Dining attended a class at Total Wine to learn about whiskey. We learned that Ireland and Scotland started the revolution of creating strong alcohol from different types of grain. Wheat, barley, and rye are the primary ingredients. Typically the grain is mashed, fermented and distilled to create alcohol. Countries and States have created many regulations to control the rules of production of whiskey, bourbon and rye.
I tasted three different alcohols: Irish Whiskey, Japanese Whisky, and Scottish Bourbon. Please note the Japanese Whisky’s primary grain is rice. First, all were strong and intense on the first sip. The strong flavors continued to dominate. I was glad a small plate of fruit and other foods was provided to help ease the strong alcohol flavor.
I enjoyed a sip but three sips were too much for me to handle. Mile High Dining will stick with a beer or a glass of wine.
