Mile High Dining and another went to Jax Fish House for the Feast of the Seven Fishes. It’s an Italian tradition on Christmas Eve day to avoid eating meat. Jax allowed us to sit at the bar as it’s my favorite place in the restaurant.
The first course, Insalata Di Frutti Di Mare, had 3 seafood items, mussels, shrimp, and squid combined with arugula and olives. A light salad to start.
The second course, Gems & Chicory, had lettuce, anchovies, and cheese croutons. We learned bottarga was included. It’s cured fish roe placed in a pouch.
The third course, Calamari Ripieni, had the best holiday presentation as the calamari was sitting in a bright and delicious red tomato sauce. The calamari was even stuffed with Italian sausage.
The fourth course was Branzino with tomato, fennel, and aqua pazza (broth). A delightful light-tasting fish.
Of course, there was a dessert, Panna Cotta with lots of pomegranate seeds and hazelnut crumble. The pomegranate seeds were very tasty paired with the sweet panna cotta.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for the Feast of the Seven Fishes was Very Good. We added an eighth dish of fresh oysters.
