Mile High Dining went to Boulder to eat casual French food at Mateo. The restaurant has been open for over 20 years. We selected indoor sitting until the server informed us the Happy Hour menu is for the patio only. Therefore, we sat outside.
Each had a glass of wine and shared a small bowl of roasted nuts and a cheese plate. The cheese plate was very good with three different cheeses with honey, jam, and grilled bread. For the main dish, I had the mussels while my friend had the Steak Frites.
The bowl of mussels was served in the pan steaming hot. It was tomato based with lots of small herbs but the mussels were too small in size. Good but not excellent.
The Steak Frites with a small green side salad was rated good. The hand-cut fries covered with salt were very good.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Mateo is Good.
