Mile High Dining went to Ultreia on a windy and cold evening. It’s located in a small corner of Union Station but it’s a very lively place. Ultreia means “onward” as it was used to encourage worshippers heading to a shrine in Spain. The place reminds you of eating in Europe. The restaurant focuses on Spain and Portugal food and wine.
I selected spicy ribs and a bread dish. My guest had veggies and roasted garlic soup.
The bread dish was Pan Con Tomate with anchovies. On the toasted bread add the tomatoes and anchovies. A great tasting snack. The spicy ribs with Basque chilies is a plate full of ribs. They are not smothered with barbecue sauce so the meat flavor shines. The chilies add lots of spice.
The veggie dish was Charred broccoli and asparagus with almonds. A very healthy dish. The roasted garlic soup with beans and wilted spinach was a perfect match for the weather. Delicious.
One had a Tawny port and I had the classic gin tonic ( called gin and tonic in America). It’s probably the national drink in Spain.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Ultreia is Very Good. The ribs, bread, and garlic soup were delicious.
