El Rancho

Mile High Dining and others went to the re-opened classic restaurant, El Rancho. It’s a landmark that has been around for 75 years. In the past, a trip to the mountains required a stop to visit the trading post for a gift and a quick meal. After being closed for years, it’s open and filled with diners. We were excited to give it a try!

We were seated with a view of the mountains, which was a good start for the evening. My order of wine was canceled as they were out. So I chose their bloody Mary, but sadly it was too plain tasting. We shared 2 appetizers, shishito peppers and Brussels sprouts. The peppers were delicious but the sprouts were burnt.

The main dishes were a French dip, consisting of prime rib, au jus for dipping, and a side of French fries. It was rated very well. I had the pulled Red Bird chicken from the smoker with a side of collard greens. It was good tasting, but not that special flavor I hoped for. The third dish was the pan-seared salmon with rice and broccolini. Again a good solid dish but not the best.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for El Rancho is Good. When one of the appetizers is burnt, the small table rolls were stale, and the bloody Mary was just plain tasting, we were disappointed. Hopefully, the food will improve.
