Mile High Dining went to Boulder not to watch the CU Buffs lose another football but to dine at Frasca. Although 5280 Magazine believes it is not a top 25 restaurant, Mile High believes otherwise. They have received more awards from the James Beard Foundation than any other restaurant in Colorado. Frasca focuses on northeast Italian styled food and wine.
We started with a half pour of wine the host selected and chose 4 menu courses. Frasca actually features half pours of wine (tajut). The frico caldo appetizer is simply potatoes and cheese fried and it’s delicious. It’s the only menu item I can reproduce at home.
The main dishes are very delicate. First, the burrata cheese with kiwi fruit. The taste of the kiwi with the mild burrata cheese was refreshing and different.
The tagliatelle with wild game and parmigiano cheese was earthy. The pasta was very mild flavored and soft but the added meat and cheese produced a very good dish.
The halibut (Ippoglosso) with thinly sliced turnips and grapes was excellent. The fish was lightly cooked while the grapes added that extra texture.
Lastly, the dessert was Pera frangipane with pears and huckleberries. Small is size but we enjoyed the lack of lots of sugar to end the meal. I didn’t end but ordered and sipped a half pour of grappa.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Frasca Food And Wine is Excellent! It’s very expensive but definitely worth a special occasion .
