Sports Bars: Old versus New

Mile High Dining visited two sports bars to compare the old versus the new. The old was Choppers and the new was Tom’s Watch Bar. Chopper’s opened in 1996 and is named after the former trainer for the Denver Nuggets. It has a large 165 inch video screen and 30 other TVs. There is a small outside patio. It’s located in a residential neighborhood, so lots of free parking. The menu is a typical sports bar selection. We enjoyed the chicken tacos and a hazy IPA. The place was not crowded even though it was a baseball night of a Dodgers v. Rockies game. Sadly, I had to ask to put the Rockies game on one of the TVs.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Chopper’s Sports Grill is It’s OK.

The new is Tom’s Watch Bar next to Coors Field. It has seating for 735 making it very large. A big outside patio and even a second level with a large bar and two golf simulators. There are 155 TVs and several large screens. I did not have to ask to watch the Rockies game! We enjoyed a flight of limited release beers and an AHI tuna dish that was perfect for a hot summer evening. If you want a larger draft beer they have a 40 oz size! Since it’s next door to Coors Field, get ready to pay for parking.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Tom’s Watch Bar is Very Good as a sports bar.
