Greenwich

The Greenwich is a new vibrant restaurant with New York City ties. The cocktails are all with names of places in the Big Apple. We started with an Alphabet City cocktail which has Mezcal, lemon, and chili. Delores Tronco, the owner, has ties to both Colorado and NYC. The Head chef, Justin, is a native New Yorker. Once again Mile High Dining was the oldest diner there by years but everybody loved my purple Chuck Taylor converse sneakers.

The menu is American style with an emphasis on plates to be shared. The two of us shared grilled asparagus, deep fried bread, turnips, a whole striped bass, extra bread, and dessert.

The grilled asparagus was sitting on a gribiche sauce which is egg, cucumbers, and parsley with added garlic. Very good springtime asparagus!

The Popizze is deep fried bread with a delicious dipping sauce. It is a fritter using bread as the main ingredient rather than corn or polenta.

The turnips were paired with hazelnuts and a mild horseradish. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen turnips as a dish on a menu but it was very good.

The whole striped bass was grilled and sitting on a bed of greens and added pepper flakes. Although it was spicy, the soft white fish was mild and very flavorful. One diner expressed that the fish was too spicy and the server brought the owner, Dolores, and she provided our table with a complementary small loaf of bread and butter. That was a very nice gesture.

We finished the evening with dessert which was the warm strawberry sesame cake sitting on a ricotta cheese base. It’s not a sweet dessert at all and one had a rhubarb nonalcoholic drink with seltzer and lemon which was delicious and the other a mint tea.

Overall, we were impressed not only with the food but with the excellent service provided.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for the Greenwich is Very Good.
