The Campus Lounge was founded by a Denver University hockey player in 1976. Today it is a bar, restaurant, and amusement hub, loud and crowded on Saturday nights. It even has a pool table, arcade video games, and a table shuffle board. The menu is American style items from steaks to fries. There are lots of beer options, drafts, cans and bottles. There’s also an outdoor seating area in the former parking lot that is quieter. The three of us started with a draft beer paired with the nightly special of chicken fried steak, campus hamburger, and the chicken sandwich.
The fried chicken steak is a very large meal. The steak is tenderized, breaded, then fried. Presented sitting on lots of mashed potatoes with a side of macaroni.Mm, the steak was given a very good rating. There is certainly enough to take home.
The campus burger comes with cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and topped with a jalapeño pepper wrapped in bacon. A side of French fires is standard. Again, it’s a very large and good solid burger.
The fried chicken sandwich with lettuce and pickles is maybe the largest sized sandwich in town. It was presented with an order of french fries. A knife is needed to cut the sandwich in halves so you could handle it. It’s very good chicken but with a slice of tomato, lettuce, and some mayo or sauce, it would much better.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for the Campus Lounge is Good.
