Not that long ago, Denver used to be a cow town, Mile High Dining found two French restaurants to expand the city’s culinary horizon. We ventured north to Brasserie Brixton which is in a neighborhood just short of a large commercial area. Au Feu is located in central Denver. The two restaurants are different and both are worth a visit.
Brasserie Brixton is a small space with a large bar. We started with a glass of wine and one of my table guests had a different taste. No problem, as the server suggested a different wine and brought out a new glass of wine at no extra charge. One of us enjoyed the classic French onion soup and a bowl of French fries. Both given good marks. I started with the Burrata cheese salad. The cheese is plated on a bed of grilled snap peas. Definitely an excellent presentation and taste. We finished with a small green salad and the salmon and pistachios. A good combination of fish and with a little crunch.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Brasserie Brixton is Very Good. The onion soup and Burrata cheese salad were excellent. They are open from Wednesday through Saturday!

Au Feu Brasserie is like walking into a living room as there are tables but lots of couches with coffee tables for dining. We both started with a glass of wine and had to learn some French terms. I started with chef’s selection cheeseboard with 5 different cheeses, apricots, figs, and honey. It was delicious. We also had the bowl of mussels. Although they had a great presentation, they were disappointing as they were small sized and the broth could use a little spice.
The other diner had the entree sized chicken Kiev with rice and asparagus. The chicken was soft, tender, and still warm when presented.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Au Feu Brasserie is Good. Just get the cheeseboard and the chicken Kiev and the rating jumps to Very Good and we had excellent service.
