Mile High Dining went uptown to the Humboldt restaurant. It’s located in the space that housed the iconic Strings restaurant. It has a large number of seats, high tops and a dining room area. It has a large bar and it’s in a beautiful old brick restored building but it needs a little bit of extra color for the walls. We enjoyed the tail end of happy hour as we arrived five minutes early and had oysters at two dollars each and five-dollar glasses of wine. Not being the oldest customers as there was at least five other gray-haired folks eating out was refreshing.
The chicken risotto had smoked red peppers, Fort Collins mushrooms, green onions, and herbs. The risotto is a good solid cold-weather dish. Actually, the side dish of the grilled brussels sprouts were very good!
The Dover sole with potatoes and asparagus is a large size of fish pan-fried with Panko crust and lime Buerre Blanc with roasted fingerling potatoes. The fish came without the asparagus and we had to ask the server to bring the grilled asparagus. The asparagus had a great fresh flavor but was not cooked long enough as it was hard to even cut. The fish was appreciated as the crispy crust and light flavored fish mixed well.
My readings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Humboldt is Good. It is recommended that you show up for happy hour between 3 to 6 and enjoy five dollar glasses of wine and two dollar oysters and many other inexpensive side dishes.
