Mile High Dining went searching for the best croissant in Denver. The search covered a large geographic area going to 7 different bakeries. At the beginning, we learned that you must arrive early as many places were sold out by 10 AM in the morning. Our requirements are the croissant had to be the traditional version without any fillings or toppings, a flaky texture, airy crumb, and a buttery and slightly salty taste.
The seven bakeries we tasted, in alphabetical order, are: Detour, Gateaux, Katherine’s, La Fillette, Les Delices De Paris, Reunion, and Trompeau.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The Good verdicts ⚖️ :
1. Les Delices De Paris was missing a flaky texture.
2. Katherine’s had a good flavor but not flaky enough.
The Very Good verdicts ⚖️ are given to the next four:
3. Detour had very flaky and light texture but just average taste.
4. Trompeau’s has good flavor but they were not light enough. It was warm enough to eat outside on a small patio.
5. La fillette had flaky and a good taste but not light enough.
6. Gateaux had a very flaky outside but just too soft inside.
The Excellent verdict ⚖️ is awarded to Reunion!
7. Reunion croissants were light, very flaky, and had a buttery taste. It reminds you of eating in Paris, France.
