El Camino serves Mexican food sourced from local ingredients. The stylish bar and high-top table seating make it not the typical Mexican restaurant. They even donate a portion of their proceeds to support local public schools. The food centers on Denver’s favorite Mexican dishes and with a large option of flavored margaritas.
It was a quiet evening after a Broncos football loss, so we started with a couple of margaritas. Once again we tried the jalapeño infused tequila. A good strong start.
We started with the large green chili Caesar salad. The salad was large enough to be shared and it was filled with lettuce, pickled onions, and cubes of very warm polenta croutons. The salad was very good but the croutons were the different and an excellent ingredient.
We asked at the beginning for the salad to be served first then our two dishes later but while we’re eating the salad the tacos and quesadillas arrived. They had to be taken back to the kitchen as four plates would not even come close to fitting on the small high top table.
After the salad, the shrimp tacos which are four to a plate arrived. There is lots of tasty shrimp covered in salsa. It’s a good taco.
The other main dish was barbecued chicken quesadilla which comes with a side of barbecue sauce and extra salsa. It was also a well-flavored dish.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for the El Camino Community Tavern is Very Good as we overlooked the service hiccup!
