The call of French-style cooking took us out to the suburbs. Mile High Dining went halfway to Boulder to eat at a new restaurant, Famille. It’s located in a hotel just off of Sheridan but there was no signage for either the hotel or the restaurant. It was a search to find it.
We had five small plates: grilled shrimp, smoked salmon, beet and peach salad, asparagus salad, and a side of green beans.
The grilled shrimp with artichokes, tomatoes, olives, onions, with a chili glaze is presented in a large bowl. The artichokes, tomatoes and grilled shrimp were excellent. The small tomatoes and shrimp set the tone for the evening.
Next, the asparagus salad with baby kale, grapes, covered with a vinaigrette was summertime good. The dressing helped to make the kale taste good next to the delicious asparagus spears.
The smoked salmon is presented with cremé fraiche and homemade corn crackers had a very pretty presentation. We enjoyed the salmon with the light cheese taste.
The last two dishes were disappointing. The beet and peach salad sounded too good to pass up. It was presented beautifully but lacked flavor. The peaches were not ripe enough and the beets had little flavor. The other side dish of green beans were over cooked as they were too mushy.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Famille is Good. The service we received was very good but the last two dishes were disappointing.
