Mile High Dining went causal at Asbury Provisions, a gastro pub. Bordering the college campus at Denver University, it features beer and pub food. Students were gone for the summer break, so it was easy to find a parking space. We were served by one of the owners, who also operates as the head bartender.
We started with jars of marinated olives and the fancy pickles. The olives were good but the pickle jar had carrots, asparagus, string beans, other vegetables, and of course pickles. It not only looked good, it was delicious combined with the sour taste in a Belching Beaver IPA beer.
Next, we ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich had cheese, spinach, and tomatoes. But we added caramelized onions and extra blue cheese. It’s a large and good tasting sandwich. After we added some of the pickled veggies from the pickle jar it even expanded the flavors. The bartender added a half beer of Horse and Dragon stout. An excellent way to finish off the cheese.
For dessert, a large cherry cheesecake was selected. Definitely enough for two.
My ratings are: It’s Ok, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Asbury Provisions is Good. The place is very dark as I had to use my phone to read the menu. Next time I will seat by the window and order the pretzel with beer cheese.
