Shanahan’s Steakhouse

Mile High Dining latest diner was from the upscale Shanahan’s Steakhouse located in the Denver Tech Center. The former Denver Broncos head coach, Mike Shanahan, is the owner. We ordered by phone for curbside pick up. People were filing into the restaurant at the 5:00 opening but were still doing takeaway.

We went overboard and ordered 10 dishes: crab cake, calamari, salad, steak, spinach, mushrooms, fish, scallops, cheesecake, and bread.

The jumbo crab cake with sweet corn succotash and Creole lobster sauce was delicious. Lots of pieces of crab meat with very little filling made it one of the better crab cakes in town.

The crispy Point Judith calamari had Italian peppers, blue cheese stuffed olives, and atomic cocktail sauce. The calamari was very tender and had a good crusty coating.

The Shanahan salad had several different lettuces, cucumber, tomatoes, bacon, and vinaigrette dressing. A nice light salad.

The 12 oz. Prime New York strip steak needed some extra cooking at home as it arrived very rare. The steak was good but not great.

A side dish of creamed spinach was overloaded with too much butter. The other side dish of wild mushrooms was very good!

The seared jumbo sea scallops served with roasted tomatoes, artichokes, leeks, and a brown butter sauce were very large and had a great taste. The scallops were seared to a crust on the outside and we’re very tender inside. A very pretty presentation on the dish.

The pan-roasted Chilean sea bass had a miso honey glaze, baby bok choy, and a ginger broth. The fish was very tender.

Lastly, I almost forgot the free loaf of bread with whipped butter. It had a great crusty texture.

Two slices of cheesecake with blueberries were gratuitous and a great taste to finish the meal.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Shanahan’s Steakhouse is Very Good.
