For the first day of Spring, Mile High Dining wanted seafood. We had takeaway meal #51 from Max Gill & Grill from the Wash Park area. It’s a long-established restaurant serving seafood and grilled meats. We ordered online and the pick up was a pleasant experience as the staff was very friendly. The neighborhood was overflowing with people as it was sunny and warm. We saw the first sign of spring in Denver, volleyball games in Wash Park.
We ordered avocado toast, clam chowder, braised brussel sprouts, lobster roll, grilled salmon, and key lime pie.
The avocado toast was two large buns covered with avocados, herbs, spices, greens, and thinly sliced cheese. A very pleasant way to celebrate warmer weather. It was delicious.
The clam chowder with crackers was warm and filled with lots of seafood. Very good!
The braised brussels sprouts were forgettable. The sprouts were shredded, then braised. As a result, they lost their texture and taste.
The 6 oz. grilled salmon with a side of green beans and broccolini was very good. The fish was crispy on the outside but tender inside. The veggies added a nice touch to the plate.
The classic lobster roll had very large pieces of lobster and a soft roll that was easy to break apart to eat. It needed a little more spice added as it tasted just too plain tasting.
The Keylime pie was pretty sitting on the plate. It was good tasting but lacked the key ingredient, lime flavor.
In summary, 3 great dishes, avocado toast, clam chowder, and grilled salmon. But 3 average dishes, braised sprouts, lobster roll, and key lime pie.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Max Gill and Grill is Good.
