The Bindery

Mile High Dining had take away dinner number 49 at The Bindery. Beautiful warm weather brought out lots of people to this lower Highlands restaurant and market. It’s open in the morning for pastries and coffee, then lunch and dinner. We ordered online which was a breeze. When we arrived, our prepaid order was not ready. In fact they didn’t even have our order. We had to show them the receipt and they rushed to assemble it after a 15-minute wait. Not the way to start!

Our order of five dishes included Caesar salad, octopus salad, burrata Napoletano salad, baby back ribs, and a pizza. Two small pastries from the market area of the restaurant were added gratuitously due to the order pick up problem.

The winter Caesar salad had a large slice of garlic toast, arugula, shaved egg, radicchio, and anchovies. It had a beautiful presentation but was very difficult to eat as the arugula at extra long stems. We needed a steak knife to cut the large stems.

The barbecued octopus salad had fingerling potatoes, shishito peppers, hearts of palm, and grilled octopus. Again it was a very good presentation but the octopus was lacked flavor.

The third salad was burrata Napoletano with leeks, brussels sprouts, orange slices, and burrata cheese. It was the best of the three salads. The cheese and leeks saved the evening for the salads.

The honey glazed baby back ribs with spicy jalapeño coleslaw were delicious and enough for a family. The meat was well done but tender. The added honey provided a great sweet taste with crunch. Clearly, the best dish of the evening. Also, the ribs were the least expensive dish.

The chefs choice of pizza had thin sliced onions and peppers, steak, cheese, and fresh pesto. It was still warm when we arrived home. It had a very good taste due to the onions, peppers, and cheese.

The added pastries included a mango flavored custard that had a beautiful orange color and a flavorful taste and was not too sweet.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for The Bindery is It’s OK. After many takeaway meals, this was the first and only time a restaurant did not even have the order. That is a no-no!
