Mile High Dining enjoyed another takeaway meal and it snowed again! We went to Charcoal Bistro in the Washington Park neighborhood. It’s American fare with a Southern accent. We ordered by telephone after it opened at 4:00 pm as our earlier call was not returned. The website needs to state “ call after 4:00 for takeaway”.
We ordered 4 dishes: arugula salad, Brussel sprouts, blackened salmon, and fried chicken. When walking to the car, one of the chefs came running out with an item they forgot to include in the takeaway order. Everything was still warm when we arrived home. That is a plus!
The arugula salad was large-sized and the bright green looked great when plated. Included were walnuts, shaved parmesan, and a vinaigrette dressing. If more dressing were added, the salad would have been rated very good. It was still good.
The Brussel sprouts tasted very good but I was afraid to take a picture as they are roasted black and made a sad presentation. We suggest extra veggies to add some color to the plate.
The blackened salmon had a great presentation. It was sitting on a bed of wild rice with squash, spinach, and red peppers. The salmon is burnt on the top but retains its flavor in the rest of the fish.
Amy’s 3 pieces of fried chicken had extra collard greens, mashed potatoes, and gravy. The chicken was well cooked and had a good flavor. The collard greens were excellent with a vinegar and chile taste. The mashed potatoes were smooth and filling. This dish is the Southern accent!
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict for Charcoal Bistro is Good. It was reasonably priced and wholesome American fare.
