Margs Taco Bistro

On a bitterly cold day in Denver, Mile High Dining wanted Mexican-American food to try to warm up. Off to Margs Taco Bistro for takeaway meal #46. Margs is a small local chain of three restaurants in Cherry Creek, Lower Downtown, and Uptown. The Cherry Creek location has a great patio for summer days. We ordered by telephone and braved picked up the food when the temperature was near zero!

The chips and guacamole came with a large bag of chips and house made guacamole. It’s a good way to start the meal. The chips were lightly salted and a squeeze of lime juice was added. This is a very good guacamole.

The stuffed poblano pepper with shrimp is a large sized roasted pepper. The shrimp is an added feature that mixes well with the cheeses and other veggies in the roasted pepper. Good but not great.

The two tacos were delicious. First, the ninja taco is blackened tuna with cabbage on a lettuce wrap. We selected the lettuce wrap rather than the traditional tortilla and we were pleasantly surprised. It’s a great light way to have a taco. The second taco came with chicken, tomatillo sauce, and with rice and beans. Again, it was in the lettuce wrap which allowed the flavorful chicken to dominate. It was delicious.

The last dish was the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. It was disappointing and congealed. One of the continuing problems of a take away meal is keeping items warm.

The house margaritas were very strong and have a great lime mix flavor. They went so well with the chips and the two tacos. My suggestion is keep it a simple order and request chips, tacos, and margaritas!

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict for Margs is Good. Visit in the warmer days ahead and enjoy the patio and everything will taste better.
