Blue Bonnet

The Blue Bonnet is one of the oldest family run restaurants in Denver. The same family has operated it for 52 years. It serves Mexican food from its South Broadway location. The name Blue Bonnet is from the state flower of Texas. Mile High Dining ordered takeaway meal #37. It was just starting to snow and when we arrived, two ladies were eating outside on the heated patio. It was only 28 degrees outside!

We ordered 2 stuffed Poblanos with chile-lime chicken, an extra side of guacamole, a combo plate with a chicken enchilada and a chili relleno, the Blue Bonnet platter of chips and salsa, a Mexican beer, and extra chips. Everything was packaged in a large bag but we unpacked at home the promised beer was not included. We did not want to drive back and called to request a refund.

For starters, the Blue Bonnet platter has extra-large flour chips with salsa, cheese, and guacamole sides. The large chips are great for dipping. The restaurant even added some extra chips which we saved for the Bronco football game.

The 2 stuffed Poblano peppers with chile-lime chicken came with a large side of rice and beans. The peppers themselves had a little kick so I missed the beer to settle the flavor. One pepper is more than enough per serving and the chicken adds a great tasty flavor to the dish.

Our combo plate choice was the chicken enchilada and the chile relleno. Once again, a very large serving size. The enchilada is covered with cheese and had a good Mexican flavor. The relleno was saved for the next day!

Overall, everything is rated as good Mexican food at very reasonable prices. Additionally, the restaurant even has quart sized margaritas to go, just double check they are with the order.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for the Blue Bonnet is Good.
