Steuben’s Uptown

Stueben’s Uptown is a comfort food restaurant located just east of the Capitol. It has everything from fried chicken, meatloaf, to mac and cheese. Mile High Dining wanted a classic American dish after a week of election news. We selected fried chicken and two other new dishes. Of course, it was another takeaway meal, #32. Ordering online was simple and direct.

The fried chicken was a very large breast, thigh, and leg with mashed potatoes, a side of gravy, and a biscuit. The chicken was delicious and still warm. There was enough for two people to enjoy. Sadly, the mashed potatoes were cold although we were only on the road for minutes.

The first new dish was a vegetarian burger. It was a house-made patty with onions, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and added cheese and green chile. It tasted like a regular beef burger but the mayo made all the other ingredients too mushy to enjoy. The mayo needs to be in a separate container until you get home to apply. We are learning that takeaway meals sometimes need extra help. We enlisted assistance from roasted Hatch’s chiles.

The other new dish was fried pickles. They sounded so good paired with the veggie burger but they were very disappointing. The pickles were sliced very thin and breaded and fried. But ours were soggy and without a pickle crunchy taste.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Steuben’s Uptown is It’s OK as the veggie burger and fried pickles were very disappointing once they made the trip home.
