Matsuhisa

Matsushita is a Japanese sushi restaurant part of a worldwide chain of restaurants owned by Nobu Matsuhisa. The restaurants stretch from Tokyo to Paris but none are in San Francisco. Nobu owns 36 different restaurants, 12 hotels, has written seven books of which five are cookbooks, and even has appeared in three films. Matsuhisa is an upscale place that you will enjoy the food but maybe not the price. We ordered online and it was maybe the most efficient online ordering and pickup to date.

Mile High Dining had takeaway dinner number 30 and it was 4 sushi dishes and the Gardener cocktail. The dishes were a spicy tuna roll, Tataki seared tuna, house special roll, and yellowtail with jalapeno. Everything looked great even in takeaway boxes.

First, the spicy tuna roll with soy sauce and ginger was a great way to start off with spice and more spice – lots of ginger was added.

The Maguro Tataki sushi is two large pieces of seared tuna on a bed of rolled rice. The presentation was tops and the tuna was delicious. Using only chopsticks created a problem as the tuna and rice were too large to handle, but that’s a good problem.

The third dish, the house special roll was very good with lots of soy sauce and ginger. The roll has several types of fish including tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and crab. Again, it was delicious.

The last dish was the signature yellowtail with jalapeno peppers. You add a special yuzu sauce which is a type of lemon with added serrano peppers! This dish does not only look great but tastes great!

The cocktail was the Gardener which has tequila, lime juice, cilantro, and serrano peppers. On a cold evening, it blended well with the sushi.

Lastly, due to the winter weather, Mile High Dining made, from scratch, an apple pie for dessert. The added vanilla ice cream made an excellent end to a cold evening.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Matsuhisa is Very Good.
