Señor Bear serves Latin American food in the Highlands neighborhood and was Mile High Dining’s takeaway meal # 29 on a cloudy Sunday. Its ownership group also operates the Morin, Maine Shack, and other restaurants in Denver.
Mile High Dining tried Door Dash delivery as the City of Denver just passed a new law limiting the amount delivery services may charge the restaurant to 15% of the food bill. Previously, several delivery services were charging the restaurant 30% and adding a fee to the customer! Door Dash was efficient and their fees were inline.
Three large sized dishes were selected: braised greens, half a roasted chicken, and rice with seafood.
The coconut braised greens with chili, garlic, and sauce were just OK. The greens were too soggy for a take away dish. Mile High Dining suggests something heartier like kale or collard greens for delivery because it is always sitting in a box for 30 minutes.
Now onto the two good dishes. The Arroz con Mariscos is rice with squid, shrimp, clams, roasted peppers, and cilantro. This dish was very good but be careful of the peppers as they add lots of heat. The rice with seafood had a great flavor and travels well.
The third dish was half of roasted chicken with salsa verde and limes. A very good roasted flavor and a large portion of chicken. The limes added a great tang.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Señor Bear is Very Good but skip the braised greens.
