Mile High Dining selected a relatively new restaurant, Super Mega Bien, featuring Pan-Latin dishes. It’s a small place with no reservations but no problem for takeaway dinners. It’s operated by Dana Rodriquez, who has been a James Beard Foundation semi-finalist chef 3 different times! Pre virus days dim sum carts were used to display and select your food.
Mile High Dining selected two small dishes and two entrees. The pupusas are the National dish of the country of El Salvador. The other small dish was the beet salad. The two entrees were the Spanish rice and the pescado.
Of course, it was takeaway dinner number 27. Once again, a lovely voice helped take our order over the phone and she helped with the pickup itself by allowing us to just park in the street with our flashers on!
The pupusas are essentially soft-shelled tacos without meat but use spicy vegetables and cheese. They were delicious but Mile High Dining suggests you have a cerveza ready to dampen the spicy cole slaw and peppers.
The beet salad has Mexican lemon crema with beets and pickled cherries. A mild tasting beet salad but works very well next to the spicy pupusas. Crema cheese holds everything together.
The Spanish rice is roasted in an iron skillet with lots of vegetables added to the rice and then topped with goat and manchego cheeses then flipped over for serving. Garnished with spinach and radishes, it’s a great presentation. The two cheeses not only hold things together but add a great flavor. It was the best dish of the evening. A half order is even plenty for three servings.
The pescado was pan seared halibut with lots of vegetables including asparagus and others. The fish was a little dry after we returned home. A recurring problem with a takeaway. The fish had a great flavor, so one must add a little sauce to aid the fish.
Mike High Dining added its own homemade pecan pie with a made from scratch crust with its secret ingredient, vodka. Also added was Marilyn Monroe wine!
The ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Super Mega Bien is Very Good.
