Beast and Bottle is owned and operated by a brother and sister team. It’s located in the east Capitol Hill area of Denver. They focus on Colorado food items including having a pop-up farmers market with a wide selection of Colorado vegetables items including extras like honey. Check this out on a Saturday morning.
Mile High Dining enjoyed takeaway meal number 23. This has become a routine. We ordered online which was a breeze except you cannot pre-order until the restaurant opens for dinner at 5 PM. Our pick up order was ready in 35 minutes. The restaurant does have outdoor seating if you’re ready for that adventure.
Our order included fried green tomatoes, cod croquettes, peach salad, potato gnocchi, and stuffed squash. We were excited to see fried green tomatoes on the menu as after spending time in Georgia, Mile High Dining has grown to love this dish.
The Palisade Peach Salad with bibb lettuce, argulua, chevre cheese, salted almonds, and honey was excellent. Adding sweet Colorado peaches and a tangy vinaigrette is the secret to a summer salad.
The Salt Cod Croquettes with safron-marie sauce sounds good but it was too plain tasting. The croquettes need some added spice or peppers to provide some taste.
The last small dish, Fried Green Tomatoes with roasted tomato yogurt sauce, was very disappointing. First, the bread coating was too thick and the tomatoes were over-fried. I guess we have to head back to Georgia to find this Southern dish.
On to the large plates. The Stuffed Sunburst Squash which was poached in olive oil with like beans, corn succotash, and polenta was very good. First, the presentation is excellent. But, the corn and polenta succotash was the highlight. Great summertime flavors and enough for two diners.
Lastly, the Potato Gnocchi with ham, pickled green tomatoes, okra, and sweet corn pudding was very good. The vegetables added a great taste to the large-sized gnocchi.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The Verdict ⚖️ for Beast and Bottle is Very Good as the Peach Salad, Gnocchi, and Stuffed Squash saved the day!
