A new fancy restaurant, Toro Denver, recently opened at the JW Marriott hotel. This is the third restaurant in the last 10 years at the hotel, hopefully this one will last. Toro Denver is beautiful inside and with lots of outdoor seating. There are six Toro locations located worldwide including Mexico City, Tokyo, and Aspen.
The food has a Latin American influence, and additionally for Coloradans, some very expensive steaks such as the $59 ribeye.
It was another Takeaway meal, number 17, for Mile High Dining. We had five dishes: ceviche, veggies, burgers, mac & cheese, and dessert. We ordered by telephone but it took several calls to place the order. Hopefully, this problem will resolve itself quickly.
The Amarillo Ceviche is hamachi (fish) with aji Amarillo sauce and leche de tiger (citrus). I love ceviche but this dish had too much sauce that hid the flavor of the fish. It’s good but could be better.
The Local Farm Veggies Anticucho ( Peruvian based skewers) had a jalapeno emulsion side for dipping. We loved the grilled veggies.
The Toro Bison Burger was covered with bacon jam and Jack cheese. It was paired with a side of house-cut fries. It was delicious and the best dish of the night! It’s large enough for two people to share. The meat flavored with the bacon jam had a great flavor
The Lobster Mac & Cheese was ordinary in taste as it lacked enough cheese flavor but loved the lobster pieces.
Lastly, the Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cake not only had a great presentation but one diner stated it was the best dish of the night. Adding peanut butter to chocolate adds a great taste!
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Toro Denver is Very Good as the Bison Burger, Local Farm Veggies, and the Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cake out weigh the other two dishes.
