Chicken Rebel

Chicken Rebel has, maybe, the best fried chicken sandwich in Denver. It’s a small restaurant but with great chicken and beer. The owner previously operated out of a food truck but now is in a permanent space in the Highlands.

We had lunch the other day and it was warm enough to eat outside on a small patio. The inside of the restaurant is too dark with black walls, dark tables, and army green colored chairs.

My friend had the Colorado Chicken sandwich with the Ballast Point IPA. Beer from San Diego is appropriate as that is the hometown of the restaurant owner/chef. I had the Classic sandwich with the Maui Brewing Coconut Porter. Both sandwiches were very good but the Classic with the tangy jalapeño slaw and roasted garlic aioli on a large bun tops the charts. First, the chicken is large in size with a light fried crust. The slaw and aioli are the highlights with a great taste that requires you to lick your fingers. Hopefully, no Coronavirus!

The Maui Coconut Porter sounded awful, but I was pleasantly pleased. It was good compliment to the chicken sandwich.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

My Verdict ⚖️ for Chicken Rebel is Good. If they would lighten up the black walls, chairs, and tables, the Verdict would be Very Good.
