Acorn is located at 3350 Brighton Blvd., Denver, CO. inside the Old Source Iron Foundry building. Acorn is the child of the Boulder restaurant, Oak at Fourteenth, thus its name. The Source houses various other businesses including a pizza restaurant, a coffee shop, a bakery, and even a clothing store with a VW parked inside. Acorn is the probably the oldest tenant. Before you go in, check out the mural painting on 35th Ave.
We started with an Avery IPA because they were out of stout. A Pineapple Agave Hard Cider from Seattle was also selected because of its name. The cider sounded so good but it is the “Bud Lite” of ciders. Disappointing!
The two of us had three food items: Olives, Buttered Beans, and a Fried Chicken Sandwich. The Olives with garlic are warmed and sitting in a garlic conserve. Delicious and maybe the best olives in Denver! The Buttered Beans has a soft boiled egg sitting on top. Healthy and a good soft texture. The Fried Chicken sandwich was drizzled in Pastrami syrup. What is Pastrami syrup? The server explained it is the drippings when the meat is cooked. A small bowl of potatoes chips is served as a side. The chicken was very tasty but could use more Pastrami syrup.
The dining area is small and the tables are smaller, European style. The place was packed, so reservations are recommended. Also, parking is a hassle as there are very limited spots. 5280 Magazine rated Acorn as one of the 25 best restaurants in Denver and I agree. It’s not cheap as lunch and the drinks cost $50 but it’s worth it. Lastly, service was timely and friendly.
My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.
The verdict ⚖️ for Acorn is Very Good.
