Sunday Vinyl

Sunday Vinyl is located in the Union Station complex next to Tavernetta. It’s a creation of owner Bobby Stuckey, and the Frasca, Tavernetta, Pizzeria Locale team. On a typical day off on Sunday, Stuckey after a long run in the morning will listen to classic vinyl records in the evening to relax.

Sunday Vinyl is a wine bar that serves a full restaurant menu. We started with a Chardonnay and Zinfandel. The Zin’s strong flavor matched the cold winter wind better than the Chardonnay. Prices per glass are high, so I suggest you share a bottle which is a much better deal.

Food commenced with the cheese plate that had three different types of cheeses with flavor and texture. They were Brillat Savarin, epoisses , and Comte matched with Colorado honey and very thin wafer crackers. The cheese plate lacks color and needs some red jam or green sprouts to improve the presentation. Next, we enjoyed the Jamon Iberico which is fancy shaved ham. It was delicious with a salty taste. The last snack was the Smoked Salmon. The fish is mixed with herbs and placed on thinly sliced rye bread. The chef came over to our table to explain how the rye bread is sliced so thinly after we asked. They freeze the bread and then use the deli meat slicing machine. On our first visit to Sunday Vinyl, the bread was the proper sized slice and held together but this time it fell apart. Nevertheless, the fish is a great little snack.

The best dish of the evening was the entree of Charred Broccoli and Cauliflower forming a salad for two. The vegetables were covered in sesame seeds, Bulgar wheat, wild rice and a touch of grapefruit. Even, a non-vegetarian like myself enjoyed the healthy and flavorful veggies. We all liked the crunchy rice with the citrus touch.

One member of the group had dessert, the Operette Cake. A small but properly sized piece of chocolate cake for one. It received excellent reviews.

Lastly, the best thing about Sunday Vinyl is the music. Us old folks loved the variety and continuous selection of music. In the picture of Bobby Stuckey standing at the bar next to a glowing green box, that’s a fancy record player.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Sunday Vinyl is Very Good.
