Spuntino

Spuntino is located at 2639 W. 32nd Ave., Denver, CO. An Italian neighborhood restaurant in the Highlands. It’s a small and a narrow place. We were seated in the back and it’s dark, way too dark. After the drive on a snowy and cold night, it was a relief just to be inside. The word Spuntino is Italian and means “snacks”. The restaurant is operated by a husband and wife team with an open kitchen no bigger than one’s home kitchen.

We started with a strong glass of red wine, Montepulciano, to match the weather. One had a hot green tea. For starters, we had warm olives and the Burrata cheese plate. The olives were excellent. The cheese had a fig jam and little rolls of prosciutto meats. The best part was the warm and salted bread.

For main plates, we had two pasta dishes, Agnolotti and Cappellini. The Agnolotti is pinched style with slivers of chicken in a light sauce. Very good and tasty as the chicken flavored the sauce and the pasta. The Cappellini is spaghetti style with herbs, olive oil, and bread crumbs. Again, very tasty as it made the spaghetti light as compared to lots of tomato sauce style.

For dessert, one had the cheesecake with chocolate. Ok, but not the best.

Overall, the food exceeds the space. They have to lighten up the space. One complaint, the bathroom was not working and we were escorted next door to the burger joint.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good , Very Good, and Excellent.
