Post Oak Barbecue

Post Oak Barbecue is located at 4000 Tennyson St., Denver, in the Berkeley neighborhood just north of the Historic Elitch Gardens Playhouse. Post Oak is bringing Texas style barbecue to Denver. They even advertise that it cooks only with oak wood delivered from Austin, Tx.

On our visit, it was a cold, rainy, and snowy day out. It’s neighborhood parking but many do not shovel their sidewalks. I do not recommended you try walking on ice when it’s raining, so we walked down the streets!

The restaurant is in a remodeled old building with a large bar. The food is ordered cafeteria style with the menu on the wall. I had to try the Texas caviar. The other items we selected were all combinations of meats and sides. The brisket and pork platter had coleslaw and potato salad. The turkey platter had fried okra and the Texas caviar. Texas ‘caviar’ is salsa with lots of beans. Everyone had to pair the meal with the bargain pint of Shiner beer for only three dollars. Great deal! Food is presented on the cafeteria tray and sitting on paper. There is no formal plates. Sandwiches are served in small paper boats. The presentation is very disappointing especially since they tasted delicious. I added pickles, onions, and jalapeño peppers to my turkey and at least it wasn’t so sad to look at. Of the four side dishes, the fried okra was the best dish as it had a very good flavor. The Texas caviar is too plain to suggest trying.

I recommend you order your delicious food to go and take it home and eat at least on a paper plate.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for Post Oak Barbecue is It’s OK. It should be Good because the meats are delicious but served on a piece of paper downgrades my rating.
