Postino Broadway

Postino Broadway is located at 145 N. Broadway, Denver, Colorado. It’s a brand new wine bar across the street from the Mayan theater. It was a busy place filled with lots of young people on a Saturday night even at an early hour. We had no reservations but us old folks found a table on the outdoor patio under several heaters. The original Denver Postino is located in the Highlands and a third is coming to Colorado Boulevard.

Postino is Italian and means postman as the restaurant concept was formed in a vacant post office building in Phoenix. It’s a small chain of 10 restaurants in Arizona, Texas, and now Colorado. I try to stay away from chain restaurants but wine bars don’t count.

Postino presents itself as a wine bar with lots of food selections featuring snacks, boards, bruschetta, soup and salads, Panini sandwiches, and desserts -but no dish larger and no entrées. Arriving at happy hour is best as a glass of wine is only five dollars.

We started with the crispy cauliflower which has raisins, capers, and Romesco tomato sauce. It’s hard to make cauliflower great but this dish was very good as the sauce and the raisins added a great flavor. Next, we had the Bruschetta platter. You choose four different selections and we chose Brie cheese with sliced apples on a fig spread, pepper jam with goat cheese, prosciutto di Parma ham with figs and mascarpone cream cheese, and Buratta cheese with bacon and sliced tomatoes. The platter was enjoyed by all three people as each had their favorite taste. The pepper jam was my favorite as it has a little kick.

The chocolate Bouchon cake with warm chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream was a good way to finish the food.

I almost forgot, the wine. The Barbera-Nebbiolo was just good but the Malbecs were much better in flavor. Service on the patio was excellent. In fact it was probably the highlight at Postino Broadway. We all got a laugh out of the server telling us that the front desk host describe the two of us as the old couple sitting on the patio. This was meant to direct the third member of our outing where to meet with us. The front desk was reminded on the way out, the old couple was leaving!

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

My verdict ⚖️ for Postino Broadway is Very Good.
