Tupelo Honey Café

Tupelo Honey Café is located at 1650 Wewatta St., Denver, CO. It advertises itself as a “Fresh new take on Southern cuisine”. It’s located in a beautiful setting next to Union Station. For your information Tupelo, Miss. is the birthplace of Elvis Presley. Tupelo Honey is a small chain from Asheville, North Carolina. They have about 18 restaurants east of the Mississippi River. This violates one of my rules of trying to stay local and keep the money here. Generally, I am disappointed at chain restaurants and it holds true for the Tupelo Honey Café.

First, I had a delicious beer, Avery White Rascal, in a glass with the slogan “Hold your Horses”. The other diner had a beer called “Foreign Objects ” but at eight dollars for a half pour, that’s too expensive.

We each ordered sandwiches with a side. For different reasons, we were both disappointed. I had the Spicy Avocado and chopped egg sandwich with pickled jalapeño peppers thinking the peppers would help manage the cold and snow outside. The presentation with a side of goat cheese grits was almost sad looking and the jalapeños had no kick.

The other order of Slow Roasted Pork and grilled cheese sandwich with a side of tomato soup was again, too plain looking. The sandwich was good but the soup was too spicy. Maybe he got my jalapeño peppers.

I even had the Southern vodka martini as it’s only 75 cents at lunch, but again it is as plain as the sandwich presentations. Don’t worry, I took the bus home. The highlight, was the beer and the server was very helpful and knew the beer menu.

My ratings are: It’s OK, Good, Very Good, and Excellent.

The verdict ⚖️ for the Tupelo Honey Cafe is It’s OK. My suggestion is to enjoy a beer and the beautiful setting next to Union Station and skip the food.
